Synthetic Nature

Generative video loops, 3D scans, Gaussian splats, algorithmic image systems — ongoing series since 2021

Synthetic Nature reimagines the natural world through machine vision and digital abstraction. The works unfold as moving paintings — short, looping video pieces that present nature not as the human eye sees it, but as a machine might remember, reconstruct, or hallucinate it. Branches flicker, landscapes ripple, and fields breathe in rhythm, filtered through photogrammetry, Gaussian splats, and algorithmic distortion.

Each loop holds a moment suspended in flux — a digital fossil, a fading memory, a synthetic dream. Nature here is a perceptual event rather than a subject: what one encounters is not a forest or a field, but the memory of one, incomplete and eroded by data processing. The series extends my ongoing dialogue between analog painting and digital technology, where the imperfect translation from one to the other is the actual subject of the work.

Most of the series exists as looping video; a smaller number are 3D / augmented-reality pieces that let the synthetic landscape be entered and inspected in space.
